Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope Graphic Novel. Identify polarity on character arcs

Use Christopher Vogler’s The Writer’s Journey: “Star Wars” (p. 286-291) and “Polarity” (p. 315-338), along with Roy Thomas’s graphic novel version of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.

write a 500+ word response to your assigned prompt (below).

Vogler’s chapter on “Polarity” notes the impact(s) of polarity on character arcs within the monomyth. Discuss moments in Star Wars Episode IV: A NewHope that exploit this form of polarity as a device for character development. You are tasked with locating four polarized pairs of characters: one that represents opposite ends of the spectrum; one that signifies going to extremes; one that signifies reversal of the reversal; and one in which the polarity seeks resolution (p. 323-330). Your pairs may not overlap in these categories, though one character might overlap or become cross-categorical.

identify at least five panels (a panel is one self-contained square/rectangle of visual art) from the Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope graphic novel that you plan to analyze at close proximity during our class discussion; and identify at least three quotations from Vogler’s text that you will use to support your analysis.
