Analyze a text / film / game / book / TV show or other media material, looking at the child/childhood it presents / assumes AND what the effects it produces. I encourage you to think about the producers of the material (and the context of production), the consumers of the material (and the context of the consumption), the way symbols and images matter (thinking about intentionality and unintentional meanings), and tone as well as content (not just the substance, but the manner in which it is presented).
Rubric:
Topic meets the criteria for the assignment (expected; if the topic does not meet the requirements, points will be subtracted depending on how this affects the ability of this essay to fit the rubric/expectations)
Description of the material you are analyzing- precision, clarity, history, etc (0-7 points)
Use of text/critical frameworks from the course readings (with citations) – suggest you use at least three, and engage the material directly: (0-9 points)
Discussion of how gender is produced/performed/presented in this work, including informed/researched (not just your guess) consideration of both producers and consumers (specificity, clarity, depth; whose gender is produced how): (0-9 points)
Structure of the essay & writing: Essay has an introduction and conclusion, a discernible argument, coherent paragraph progression: (0-5 points)
Essays should be 1250-1400 words
