For this assignment, you will monitor your own stress for three days and complete a reflection paper on the exercise.

  1. Fill in the attached 5 Point Stress Scale. This scale will reflect your personal levels of stress. For each number, explain what the Level feels like for you during a stressful event and what you can do in that moment to lower the number. For example, at a Level 4, a person might feel like they can’t concentrate and have a headache. A coping skill that might help if a person is at a Level 4 could include taking a break and going for a 10-minute walk outside.
  2. For 3 days, monitor your own stress, keeping track of the situation that is causing stress and what Level you feel you reached during that stressful time. This stress can be as specific as having an argument with your boss to something more general as getting home from work at 5:30 pm and needing to feed the family before going to a hockey at 6:30 pm. This information will be useful as you write your reflection paper.
  3. After monitoring your stress for 3 days, reflect on your levels and what causes you stress in a 2-3 page paper. How could you better manage your stress? Which time management skills from the Rasmussen College Student Success Guide could you implement to decrease your stress levels? How will you apply this assessment and these time management skills to your career in Human Services?
  4. Submit both your reflection paper and your completed 5 Point Stress Scale.
