Please remember that there are a couple of steps to the discussion. The first step is your response, the next is responding to another student. This lets you see another student’s perspective, which is extremely helpful for considering angles to a topic/discussion that you may have missed.
You initial post is due by the end of the day on Thursday, but your response is due by the end of the day on Friday!
Part One: Inequality
In at least 100 words, please respond to the following. First, was there anything that surprised you in the video on slide 2 of the inequality lecture? What about the video on bias in medicine? Second, considering lecture material and external videos, how does culture inform bias and perpetuate inequalities? Finally, how does intersectionality fit into this conversation? Why might we want to take intersectional approaches to understanding inequality?
Please be respectful in your discussion.
Part Two: Article Summaries
This response should be about 100 words. In this portion of your response, please give a quick summary of one of the articles that you will use or are using in your annotated bibliography. Provide the citation (practicing APA based on the format below) and a summary of all of the major points in the article. Although you can provide a more general and shorter summary, you can base your response on the exercise provided in your Week 4 Navigation.
This will be useful in taking your annotated bibliography to the next step – you will need some practice shortening your writing because for the literature review, you will not be including full summaries of the articles, but very brief looks at them in relation to each other (we will cover this in another lecture, for now, focus on practicing making your summary shorter).
In regard to the citation: you do not need to worry about the doi. Please note that the formatting will also likely not allow you to include the hanging indent, but you will need that in your assignment! The hanging indent is like an inverse paragraph indentation. The first line should be lined up with the left margin and all lines of the same citation afterward should be indented.
APA (from your resource (Links to an external site.)):
Last, F. I. (year). Title of the article. Title of the Journal, vol#(issue#), pages.
Soto, C. J., & John, O. P. (2017). The next big five inventory (BFI-2): Developing and assessing a hierarchical model with 15 facets to enhance bandwidth, fidelity, and predictive power. Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, 113(1), 117-143.
Part Three
Make sure to respond to another student!
