Introductory Speech

You will deliver a 2-3 minute speech introducing yourself to the class. This talk must be structured using the following criteria:

1.Choose an object that represents something about who you are that you can use as a visual aid for the talk

.2.Your talk must connect what that object is with how it represents you as a person. This aspect of the speech is the most significant because it helps the audience understand who you are

.3.You must use a 4×6 note card, BUT you may NOT read the card. It is to be used only as your notes to speak extemporaneously. In other words, you want to speak to the audience more like you are conversing with them instead of the formal sound of reading words from a card.

4. You must meet the time requirement of 2-3 minutes. Each of the above 4 criteria are worth 7.5 points for a total of 30 points for the speech. So, think about the math for a moment. If you don’t have an object, you lose 25% of the grade. Then, if you don’t have an object, how can you relate something to who you are? That’s another 25% off your grade. You will want to make sure you have all four things covered. Oh yes….and rehearsing makes it go much better especially when it comes to the time requirement. Best wishes!
