Speech Outline

Instructions: This assignment will be done in two steps:

Step 1 Carefully study the guidelines for the speaking outline in Chapter 11 of your textbook. Beginning on p. 208 of your textbook you will find a sample speaking outline with commentary. In order for you to do well on this assignment, your outline must follow the sample format.

Please note that the speaking outline is not the preparation outline you prepared last week. All your speeches for this course are delivered extemporaneously and the speaking outline will be used to jog your memory as you deliver your speech. You will not be reading from notes.

Step 2 After you have created your outline you will add In Blue font instructions/delivery information directly on the completed outline itself. The level of detail you are providing for this assignment is beyond what you might normally include in a speaking outline. The notes do not have to be in full sentences; the notes might say “pause here” or “maintain eye contact” or “repeat these numbers twice,” etc.

This assignment will give you a clear idea of the delivery details you should be taking into consideration as you practice your speech. After you submit your outline complete with delivery information, you may want remove some of the information in order to make it easier for you to follow your notes during the actual delivery of the speech.

Remember, information and detailed explanations regarding good delivery are found in Chapter 13 of your textbook. Include the following method of delivery information (in red ink) throughout your speaking outline: Your Voice Your Body Volume Personal Appearance PItch
