*You are to respond as a thread to this forum. Your response should be no less than 450 words and is due NLT Tuesday of the following WEEK. Make sure you answer each question. Remember, you are also expected to respond to at least two other classmates’ posts in order to receive full credit for your post.

1. The loss of civil rights or a “civil death” as referred to in the text is defines as the state of being physically alive but without rights. Read Chapter 15 and share some basic inmate rights that you were not aware of prior to taking this course.

2. According to Donald Clemmer, the theory of “prisonization” contributes to recidivism and possibly undercuts the efforts of reintegration programs designed for offenders approaching their release dates. Do you agree with his position regarding prisonization amongst prisoners? Why or why not?

3. What impact does incarceration have on “mothering” and “fathering” of children?

4. Explain what the term “parens patriae” means.
