Required elements for case briefs:
I. Title and citation (APA style)
II. Procedure and facts (background information including nature of the case or description of claim)
III. Legal issues (describe in question format the legal issues at hand pertaining to the case)
IV. Holding (court’s ruling)
V. Rationale (justification for court’s decision)
VI. Significance of decision
VII. Critical opinion (student’s critical analysis and insight of the case and holding). Provide specific rationale for why you stated if you agree or disagree.

Note 1: Students should prepare to spend the majority of thecase brief in the Rationale, Significance and Opinion sections.
Note 2: Cases found not listed in the text are acceptable as long as they relate to the weeks’ topics and are sport-related.
