Hello everyone, for this week’s discussion, I am including this video clip of author Alfie Kohn discussing his book “Punished by Rewards”. Please watch the clip and respond to any of these questions. What do you make of the ideas in this clip?
Were you surprised by the results of the puzzle experiments? (mentioned at 3:40 in the video clip)
At 9:20 minutes in to the video, Dr. Kohn explains “There are more authentic ways to help invite kids into the community of readers without getting them to see books as some tedious chore they have to get through to get the goodie”. What do you think of this statement? Does this reflect any US values or elements of American culture mentioned in the book?
