For this class, you will be required to write a 5-6 page paper over medical and social issues presented in a book that you selected.

Major Paper Writing Guidelines:

  1. Submit your paper in Microsoft Word format. Other formats will not be accepted.
  2. Must use ASA citation style. ASA stylebooks are readily available at bookstores and at the library. Information about the ASA style may be found on the American Sociology Association website. Reference section is required at end of paper (not included in page length requirement of paper)

  4. Use Time New Roman, 12 font, double space with 1 inch margins.
  5. Do not skip an extra space between the paragraphs. Only put one space after periods. Do not justify align the paper.
  6. On the cover page: the first line put a title; next line, put your name; next line, put course name and section; next line, put the date,

Your final paper must have the following THREE headings TYPED in the paper (INTRODUCTION, DISCUSSION, CONCLUSION).

  • Introduction: In this section discuss your concept and the key points as it relates to the book. Define key terms. Do not assume the reading has background information on your topic.
  • Discussion: In this section write about scholarly articles on your the concept and key points. Provide a rationale as to why they are important.
  • Conclusion: Provide your stance/opinion. Tie in your concept, key points and sociology view and opinion about the medical and social issue presented in the book. In other words, what is the sociology perspective or theory that can assist with understanding the concept/issue. For this paper, it is acceptable to use first person “I think…”.
