Topic 1. Significant events and developments in the history of corrections.
Topic 2. Landmark court decisions that have impacted the field of corrections.
Topic 3. Racial Bias in arresting, prosecuting, and the sentencing of offenders in the criminal justice system.
Topic 4. Factors that have contributed to the explosion of incarceration in America’s jails and prisons.
Prepare the presentation as if it were to be used to introduce the topic to a college level course taking a class in Courts and Corrections. You can use information from the text, but you should consider including material from outside sources as well. Please make sure to provide references for your work. Follow the reference by a number in parentheses that corresponds to a citation in the bibliography.
For example: Bench (1). This should correspond to a numbered reference in the bibliography.Presentations will be graded on the following criteria: organization of material, quality of presentation, content of the presentation, accuracy of information, and demonstration of knowledge as it relates to the assigned topic. Please submit your presentation in a PowerPoint format. Please do not submit presentations in a Google or PDF format.
This assignment is worth 20 percent of the final grade.You must submit your final assignment by Friday, April 2nd to the following email address: lbench@comcast.net. When you submit your presentation please identify your presentation by the words “Locked Up!” followed by your first initial and last name in the subject line (i.e., Locked Up! – L. Bench). This helps me keep track of assignments since I teach several classes a semester. Please include the class title (Locked Up! 3564-090) and your name on the title page of your presentation.
