Hi, how are you doing?

For this assignment, you will research, develop and present a topic from the Business & Professional Communications textbook: Chapter 3: Listening

Select a timely and relevant concept, theory, perspective, trend, or activity from the chapter that
benefits the audience. Do not simply restate what the textbook covers; rather, go deeper with your research. A rehash of the chapter may earn you a failing grade.

Research: You must verbally reference at least 5 credible and recent academic sources (journals,
newspapers, business magazines—NOT Wikipedia, or other non-credible sources) in your
presentation. Avoid using quotations that are not directly related to your topic.

Time: The presentation should last about 10 minutes.

POWERPOINT Requirements:

Title slide: Include an interesting title, your name, SOBA 205 Professional Communication, and
presentation date.

Introduction Slide: Introduce the topic, purpose, thesis, and why it is timely
and relevant to the audience.

Overview Slide: Give an overview of your two – five (three is optimal) main points.

Body Slides: Present at least one slide for each main point. Be sure to provide credible support.

Visuals: You must have at least two visuals.

Conclusion Slide (and Recommendation, if appropriate): After leading your audience through your
presentation, they should be ready for—and often in agreement with—your conclusion (and
recommendation, if appropriate). Since the conclusion is what most readers are likely to retain, make
it interesting by including a compelling example or analogy. Finish by verbally thanking your
audience.

Number of Slides: The number of slides will depend on whether you choose structured or free-form
slides. Just remember that your oral presentation will be limited to 10 minutes, and plan accordingly.
