Databases are embedded in all types of professional environments and help us make business decisions. For example, a database might help a business maintain information about customers, which can help inform decisions. In your initial post, address the following:
- How do you think a database can help you solve business problems?
- What types of businesses might use a database? For what?
Respond to at least two of your classmates’ posts. When choosing posts to respond to, consider which of your peers’ posts you relate to the most. Address the following when responding:
- What is the value of having a database versus not having one? When would you want one (or not want one)?

Hello Everyone,
The company that I work for has many different departments that require databases. These databases help keep our customers information organized and accessible. Recently we have created a mobile app that when a customer come up to the cash register to pay for their order, they have the option on the credit card machine to enter their telephone number. By entering their phone number they have the opportunity to receive a digital receipt that goes directly to their email. It also generates personalized coupons based on the products that he or she has purchased throughout their shopping experiences. If the company did not have this database implemented the features would simply not function properly.

Good day class,
Databases have the ability to help companies get a good overview how certain things are working within their company. Like how many employees, how many years of service, their rate of pay, they could also keep track of absences for each person, and how many vacation days they have.
A company that might find a database useful is a construction company. They would be able to keep track of where people are working, their OT, they could break it down by site and include material amounts for that site. How much money is being spent at each site for the materials, hours to complete the job and where they are at on those hours. Even show the budget for the site. Which would be a great tool for showing at a meeting where things stand with in each project. It would also improve productivity for the staff. Simply add the data and percent it. There are so many different possibilities for using a database.
Terry
