Let’s apply what we learned last week about strategic analysis to the Zara case. Choose one of the three analytical tools we reviewed in Chapter 2 (Value Chain, Five Forces, Resource-Based View) and analyze Zara based on what you’ve read in the textbook. Here are a few tips
- Five Forces – List the five forces and identify whether the industry (not Zara, but the industry in which they compete) is high or low on each of the forces. Then identify 1-2 technology strategies Zara uses to help them address that industry force.
- Resource-Based View: List the four attributes necessary to sustain a competitive advantage according to the RBV. Then list 2-3 technology strategies in use by Zara to create a valuable, rare, inimitable, non-substitutable value proposition.
- Value Chain: Describe each of the five primary components of the Value Chain and describe 1-2 technology strategies Zara uses in that link of their value chain. Then identify 2-3 technology strategies in use by Zara’s secondary value chain components (e.g., HR, IT, procurement…).
