Overcoming resistance to change can be a long process. Most folks are not open to change in any aspect of their lives, but in the workplace, it is out of their control mostly, especially if they are not managers and not privy to need-to-know information. Change must be dealt with in a precise manner, and slowly to allow time for employees to accept and adapt.
Leaders who are enthusiastic and charismatic that motivate their staff should be a direct part of the change encouragement (Williams, 2021). This could include driving change meetings, speaking with employees one-on-one or delivering news to the workforce about the change itself (Williams, 2021).
There are tactics to conquer opposition to change. Focusing on those employees that are most resistant is a way to start. Find out their concerns, allow feedback and reassure them that the company sees them as a large part of the team and cares about their future (Paycor, 2019). Accepting ideas or considering requests from employees is a great way to appease if the company can accommodate within the changing scenery. Communicating often with ongoing updates by managers can help ease the stress and cater to those who may feel left out by upper management (Paycor, 2019).
Support and optimism should be a part of the standards of organizational change. Leaders who exude these attributes can influence others to feel the same.

Resistance to change is inevitable and should be anticipated, and a good leader should know how to navigate and help the employees with the changes. Communication skills are vital as a leader, the proper communication between the manager and employees will help the changes happen more smoothly. When changes happen, it is essential to let the employees know; by organizing a staff meeting, the employees will all have a chance to hear about the change simultaneously. In the staff meeting, I would discuss the change and then observe the proposed change’s behaviors. In addition, I would open the floor to the employees for questions, helping them better understand what the change means for the company and themselves. Opening the floor to questions would hopefully overcome the resistance of change from some employees who may not like the change. “Since changes are meant for the employees, they must have a say in the planning process. Such participation will make them less likely to resist the implementation of changes.” (Toppr, n.d.)
To overcome the resistance to change, I will be honest and transparent with the employees. An essential piece of advice to overcome resistance to change is to have clear communication. Hiding the facts or attempting to mislead the employees in any way will make the situation worse and should be avoided at all costs. If needed, I would have a spokesperson to explain further and dispel any doubts; I will also do my best to eliminate any fears the employees have. As a leader, I want the best for my employees and would explain how the change will benefit them in the long run. “Instead of looking at the limitations and risks that come with change, try looking at change as the very thing that opens the door to your next opportunity.” (Forbes Couches Council, 2017) The changes could help improve their efficiency, productivity, and performance.

I personally think that it is unethical for tobacco companies to create products with additives in them. Doing whatever they can basically to stay is business shines such a negative light on the companies. I feel like the extra just adds to the list of health concerns that are already overflowing from smoking. Other companies that change the contents are drink makers. They change things for diet drinks or the zero sugar to appeal to different people. Another example is medicines who may make a sinus ill but also make one for people with high blood pressure as well. There is a market for everyone and trying to be as profitable as possible makes sense but not when it ultimately will harm people on top of already doing damage.

In order for businesses to make a profit in the ever-changing world we live in, companies need to adapt their products. Companies need to adapt and change their products all the time to target new markets, or to be able to maintain competition with rivals. It is no different in the tobacco industry. Like other industries, their goal is to keep customer retention as high as possible. It is no question that the tobacco industry has a negative effect on the health of the nation. I am not surprised me that they are trying to ramp up their already addictive products. As smoking tobacco becomes more taboo, big tobacco giants are being forced to adapt or being frozen out of their market of nicotine users. Their biggest competitor is Juul Labs;” Juul Labs now controls almost half of the e-cigarette market, boasting year-over-year sales growth of nearly 800 percent in 2017″(Gurdus, 2018). Any industry that sinks their hooks in vulnerable people is inherently unethical… big tobacco might be the biggest example of this.
As mentioned above, big tobacco is not the only industry that has been forced to adapt their products. Countless companies alter or change small details, or in some cases, their whole business model. One example of this is the fast food industry. “In Shanghai, KFC serves porridge for breakfast and Peking Duck burgers for lunch.”(Vorhauser-Smith, 2012). This happens in local markets too, where brands have adapted to the digital age by selling products and adapting their current products to appeal to the younger generations.
