Size Constancy Illusion Photograph

Size Constancy Illusion project:

  • Create a photograph that violates size constancy. There are some examples on p. 192 of the textbook. But yours does not have to look like these –be creative.
  • Your photograph must be an original photograph created after January 2018. It must be made specifically for this class and not from a prior vacation.
  • You cannot use Photoshop or otherwise alter the photograph – the illusion must be made by clever photography.
  • Create a second photograph to show how you took the photograph.
  • Include the time and place the photographs were taken.
  • Include a one-paragraph description of the illusion being demonstrated, where it was taken, and how it was made. I prefer photographs taken in Miami.
  • Please let me know if you Do Not want your photograph posted on the class website. Some of these will be really funny, interesting, and creative, so I will post as many of them on a public forum as possible.
  • Grading is pretty simple – if you create an original size constancy illusion –along with an explanatory photo and description, you get full credit. If not, you don’t. Have fun with it, and explore how 2-dimensional photography creates 3-dimensional illusions rather than worry about grades.
  • Apply the eye check – if you don’t see a size illusion, neither will I. If you don’t have an illusion, you have not done the project right.
  • Send photographs and the description via Canvas by the due date listed in the syllabus. Email attachments are not considered submissions. Must be to Canvas assignment dropbox,
  • If not sent by the due date, no late photographs will be accepted.
