This is the third portion of a reflection paper for Christian college. This paper is a personal reflection.

Week 5: Islam

Question 1: On Muhammad & the Qur’an

Describe something about the person of Muhammad and the roles he occupied during his life. How is he compared, in Islamic traditions, to both Moses and to Jesus? How was the Qur’an formed and compiled? Did Muhammad bring a new message?

Question 2: The Five Pillars

 Describe the ‘Five Pillars’ of Islamic belief and practice. In which ways do these customary beliefs and practices reinforce important elements of Islamic faith?

Question 3: American Muslims Post-9/11

Describe some of the many impacts upon American Muslims of the events of 9/11. How has life changed for American Muslims as a result? What are some of features and institutions of American Islam?

Question 4: From the Anthology

 After reading the Anthology selections from the text, what passages or teachings from the Qur’an sound most similar to our previous readings in the Anthology text?  Which passages are dissimilar?
