Short Assignment 2
In 2011, President Obama issued Executive Order 13583—Establishing a Coordinated Government-wide Initiative to Promote Diversity and Inclusion in the Federal Workforce. This executive order required federal agencies to create agency-specific Diversity and Inclusion Strategic Plans. For this assignment, students will analyze 2 agency plans—comparing the plans on particular dimensions (specified below). The plans can be found by googling “Diversity and Inclusion Strategic Plans Federal Government”—they are not all compiled on one web page. Select two plans that have similarities and differences (trust me—there is variations across the plans). In 1.5-2 pages, single-spaced, 12pt Times New Roman, prepare a short paper that including the following:
- Introduction—which two plans were analyzed?
- To what degree do these plans look like they were developed with care and tailoring to the individual agency’s needs? (Versus following the Office of Personnel Management (OPM)’s template and guidance). Review the strategies—how general or specific are they? Discuss.
- Does the plan include discussion of how it was developed (i.e. the process)? If yes, please elaborate.
- Review the mission and vision statements of the two plans—how similar or different are they and how do they align with what you have learned about diversity and inclusion so far in this class?
- Across the two plans, if you were a manager given this plan to implement, what would be your reaction to this? Discuss and support.
- Conclusion—bring your overall discussion briefly together and reflect on what you learned analyzing these two plans.
