1. The Bodhisattva means a person, who was capable of reaching nirvana, but didn’t do so in order to help other souls reach enlightment. The bodhisattva is doing so out of compassion for other people, who are still experiencing ignorance and suffering. It is a huge sacrifice, since reaching nirvana, or ending the cycle of samsara, is the main goal for all followers. For some it may take their whole life to accomplish this personal liberation.
2. I believe that the Bodhisattva can be compared to Jesus in Christianity. The core of Christian faith is the belief that humans are lost souls in the universe, which need to be led by the loving and caring God. Jesus appeared among humans to show them the violence they brought to the world and to teach them love and compassion. He made the ultimate sacrifice by being tortured and killed by the people, in order to save humanity. Both Cristianity and Buddhism teach that the only way for humans to reach enlightment is trough the power of cosmic love.
3. The concept of “no self” ultimately means that a person is not their permanent version of themselves, but rather an ever-changing persona. It is an interesting concept when we think about time and its relativity. It pevents reducing people to just their past words, characteristics and actions. I think that the notion of voidness of everything allows people to feel more aligned with the universe, so mysterious and unpredictable. However, it can be a dangerous idea, since it would distabilize many people. A lot of people need to feel attached to reality, to comprehend themselves as something solid and monumental. For some, such belief would take all their purpose of living, therefore, they would have nothing to lose.
