1-In the article “A Case Study in Cross-Cultural Health Care & Ethics” (Chrastek, Goloff, Moore), it becomes evident that defining “what is best for the child” may vary depending on where one grew up. Based on all the literature that we discussed in the module “Culture & Health,” how were the Western (U.S.) doctors and Asian parents (Mr. & Mrs. S) in the aforementioned article likely informed by their own inherent biases in defining “what is best” for the child – in terms of the following aspects:

a. Ethnocultural

b. Religious (implicit or explicit)

c. Health care system of own culture

3-In the article “Learning as othering” (Neriko Musha Doerr), the lives of three American study abroad students were examined: Sophie (who studied in France), Tracy (studied in Spain), and Maria (also Spain). Based on two of these case study participants (any two; your choice), please explain how they used othering to learn about their host country’s culture.

4-Imagine the following scenario: Three college students work together on a group assignment. Two of these students spent their formative years immersed in an Indigenous and Arab culture (i.e., collective-oriented), respectively, while the third student is of European descent and grew up entirely in Canada. Based on your knowledge of cross-cultural learning preferences (i.e., cognitive styles), what are the challenges that may occur between them in working together? Please discuss one potential challenge.
