SELF DRIVING CARS
Self driving cars will, without quest, save tens of thousands of lives each year. One of the issues
is which lives will be saved. The cars inevitably must be programmed with certain defaults in
emergency situations that require critical and spur of the moment decisions be made. The
articles below outline some of these issues/dilemmas.
Please provide a thorough, well thought out and creative analysis of these issues, the arguments
on both sides of the issue and viable solutions for each. Your essay should include the criteria
you believe life and death decisions should be made, who should make them (manufacturer,
consumer or government) and why your suggestion is a good a policy. As always, it should include
opposing viewpoints. Please do not limit yourselves to these issues. Creativity and a thorough
analysis is important here.
