Introduction
The introduction should adequately describe previous research on self-criticism and psychological difficulty. You are
expected to refer to and cite the Thew, Gregory, Roberts & Rimes (2017). You are welcome to use your Myers & DeWall
textbook (Chapter 15 and 16) as well.
It is important that the article or chapter you reference is connected in some way to the research question posed and
your hypothesis (what do you anticipate is the relationship between self-criticism and overall psychological distress as
well as specific psychological symptom categories).
By the end of your introduction, state your hypothesis clearly.
Method
The method section should describe the research methodology used in the study. This should include the participants,
the procedures and the measures used. Each measure should be briefly described.
Results
The results section should describe the statistical analyses used to evaluate the research question and the validity of
each hypothesis that was tested. Do not interpret your results in this section, as that is saved for the Discussion section.
Describe your findings in statistical terms, with as much detail as possible. For example, how are statistical relationships
measured and what were the findings?
Discussion
The discussion section should be used to summarize and interpret your findings. Restate your hypothesis and indicate
here whether your results supported your stated hypothesis. Why was there support or why was support lacking? It is
crucial that you tie previous research identified in your Introduction to your interpretation of the results (e.g. how do
your conclusions fit with previous research?)
Next, identify limitations in the study (e.g. what could have been done differently, what choices about how the research was completed influenced the results?).
End this section by restating the findings and indicate why these findings have importance. Identify the implications of research findings. In other words, what use is there for the findings and how might we use the findings to improve our knowledge of clinical psychology? Why are the findings interesting given your knowledge of the topic? I would recommend referencing Kannan & Levitt (2013).
