For this discussion, consider the following three cases and imagine you are the case worker for each instance. Your job is to refer each patient to one (and only one) of the professionals (i.e., psychologist, psychiatrist, neurologist, or neuropsychologist) who is the best choice to evaluate and manage the case. For each case, also use Chapter 3 of your textbook to make an educated guess about which brain region(s) or systems might be involved in the client’s symptoms. You do not need to be correct. The point is to help you start associating brain region names with brain functions.

Case 1 (Freda)
Freda is a 23-year-old female who just last year enrolled in community college and came to the attention of her professors when her grades started to drop. When asked what was going on, she stated there were people watching her all the time and following her, making it hard for her to sleep and, therefore, to study.
Case 2 (Gerald)
Gerald is a 40-year-old and has three children. He has been employed at a local warehouse for the last eight years. He is well liked and gets great job performance reviews. Recently, Gerald has been late several times, his work has declined, and he has been seen responding to colleagues irritably. Gerald states he is upset over his children leaving for college and his wife not giving him much attention.
Case 3 (Jose)
Jose is a 25-year-old semipro baseball player. He was, until recently, moving up in his career and getting a lot of attention from scouts. However, just in the last few weeks, his pitching started to suffer. Jose became irritable over nearly everything and was just found unconscious behind the steering wheel of his car, which had rolled into another parking space. He was uninjured but seemed very confused when woken up by bystanders.
In your initial post and for each person mentioned in the prompt,
- Determine which one (and only one) of the professionals (i.e., psychologist, psychiatrist, neurologist, or neuropsychologist) is the best choice to evaluate and manage each case.
- Who did you pick and why?
- Why not one of the other practitioners?
- What brain region(s) might be involved in one or more of the person’s symptoms? Use Chapter 3 of your text to find candidate regions. You can make an educated guess because each case has room for debate.
Guidelines:
- Your main post must be a minimum of 300 words.
- Cite sources using APA style.
- Refer to APA: Citing Within Your Paper and APA: Formatting Your References List for guidance. Use your text or other sources as needed.
