POSC315, Spring Semester

Requirements: Six to eight pages in length (a minimum of six full pages, not a sentence less). The paper is to be double-spaced, in 12 pt.  Times-New Roman font. Submit your paper electronically through Canvas, using this portal.

Due: April 17th, submissions accepted as early as April 10th.

Brief Description: This essay is meant to be an analytical reflections upon some theme, concept, principle, thesis, inquiry, or argument developed and advanced within a specific text or texts.

The requirements for this reaction essay are the same as the first essay, viz.,

  • If you decide to focus on one author, remember to remain within the time-frame of this class (no thinker who lived before Dante, no on after J. S. Mill). As stated in my recent e-mail (transmitted on March 29th), I had been planning to include Hume, Wollstonecraft, and Burke along with Rousseau in the fourth exam, but I may not be able to cover enough material in our presentations to that end. If I were not to include these thinkers in the upcoming exam, they would then be thinkers that you could write about for your second reaction paper if you are interested. If they are included, there would then still be plenty of authors from which you may choose to write about.
  • If you decide to write about a theme, argument, concept, or topic, then (as before) you may include any thinkers within the scope of this class.

Remember, this is more than a descriptive paper, although some description is necessary. In other words, I need to read both descriptive and analytical elements in your paper. Please remember that this is a college level assignment (a 300-level course), hence the paper must be written accordingly.  In short: be sure to proof-read carefully, and careful proof-reading requires going beyond spell-check.
