1.BMI Personal Classification

Please measure your height in inches and weight in pounds — so that you can determine your personal BMI value. Also, you may (or may not) have the ability to measure your waist circumference. Please use your estimated or measured waist circumference to determine your abdominal area and identify your risk for cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and/or type 2 diabetes.

Compare your BMI measurements to the classification table in 18.1 (see page 354) and waist circumference to the standard waist measure on page 354. Based upon these measures, please write up your results and estimate your personal caloric needs (use Table 18.2 on pg 359) and estimate how many calories you will use for various exercises (see page 93)

2. Diabetes Assignment

Please submit a one-page summary of your overview of prediabetes and discuss the slippery slope of prediabetes and the lifestyle modifications recommended to prevent the development of diabetes.

3. Calcium & Vitamin D Intake

Activity Assignment:

  • Brainstorm a list of 10 food choices, or substitutions in your typical diet, that can promote bone health and identify ‘why’ these foods would be appropriate for you !!
  • Please submit a single page interpretation/impact on Foods and Bone Health in a WORD document

4. Wellness Indicators Activity

Review the dimensions of wellness indicators (table 1.1, pg 5) and determine your personal status for each dimension.

In a one-page Word document, please identify what factors may affect your rating of the relative presence of each dimension (i.e., where you fall on the indicator continuum) and how these affect your current habits
