PEER POST # 1 ❗
Hi Class,
When a new design of an app comes out, it is the user who is impacted the most. They interact with the app more than any other stakeholder. When determining the opinion that matters most in the design process, it depends how you are measuring that. If you are measuring by how successful the redesign is, I would say the end user is the most important. It is their opinion that determines if the redesign is successful or not. If you are measuring who has the most say in the design, it would be the project leader. The project leader has the power to listen to the end users and give them what they want or force their views on the design. Updating designs is not unique to interface designs. Companies have been updating their logos for years to show they are still relevant and evolving with the times. Updating interface designs accomplish the same goals, the design is growing with the user and the world. If you do not update, newer products will make yours look and feel out dated. My company uses and old ERP system that has the look and feel of windows 95. next to a modern ERP it does not compare.
PEER POST # 2 ❗
Hello everyone! I hope everyone is having a great week!
Regarding who is impacted the most by the new design, I think it’s a toss-up. Ultimately, when an application gets a new design, it resonates with the customer for better or worse. This is huge for recognition of the product, the first thing you see when trying to use the product (logo), or the entire application itself. Alternatively, when a company redesigns its product, it’s generally for a reason. This can be influenced by sales, innovation, and more. As these tend to illuminate towards the success of the product, a new design may be the result of more money for a better design, more interaction for the customer, or an effort to retain or get back some former users.
The opinions of the design are impacted first and foremost by the end-user. Even the designers themselves have familiarity with other products that may contain similar UI’s, logos, etc… In the article, Friedman explains that the company “explored a multitude of design direction and listened to customers around the world,” (Friedman, 2019). Most of this article explains how they utilize customer opinion in order to change and adapt their designs.
The first, and arguably most important reason why organizations choose to update interface designs is to attract more customers. As technology evolves and time moves forward, the technology utilized by children will not reflect the technology their children use. In order to maintain relevance, companies will update interface designs to reflect the best experience for the customer and continue to change for future customers. Updating the interface is both a preventative and reactionary measure.
