You will explore the types and functions of professional organizations for health educators and the roles health educators as members of such organizations. You will also focus on the ethical and legal concerns of the profession in various settings. Some of the professional organizations for health educators include the Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE), the American Association for Health Education (AAHE), International Union for Health Promotion and the American Public Health Association. Each organization has a Code of Ethics that proved of framework of shared values. Ethics can be defined as the “opinions about what is good and bad behavior in given situations; may be translated into ethical standards by a professional organization, at which time they become standards of practice by members of that organization” (Minelli & Breckon, 2009).
