Globalization refers to the reshaping of local conditions by powerful global forces resulting in cultural mixing or hybridity. This assignment will help you look at the phenomenon in your life and experiences.
Part I: Make a list of all the food items you usually consume in a day. Write the place of origin of did these items. Please do not write, “grocery stores or Amazon.” I want you to get to the actual source. Are all the items that you consume produced in the USA or somewhere else? Are these items purely “American,” or do you see hints of cultural hybridity/cultural diffusion? Discuss your responses in detail (one page).
Part II: Make a list of the clothes you use daily. Where were these items manufactured? Please do not write “department stores.” Instead, read your clothing labels and write down where these items were manufactured (including shoes). In the USA or somewhere else? Write the “Made in …..” for each item. Besides, find out if the manufacturing countries abide by the UN human rights guidelines regarding child labor and/or environmental injustice. Discuss your answer (one page).
Part III: What are some of the positive and negative side effects of globalization? How did COVID-19 impact the global market? How were you and people you know affected by the changes in the worldwide market? What have you learned from this experience? Discuss your answers with examples (two pages).
