-please use the form supplied in the materials provided
-don’t forget to state where the sun is located (at your back, straight above etc), sun is supposed to be at your back so high noon is not the best observation time
-please include the color of the smoke and the background, background color shows the contrast, this is more important for method 9s when we have to state opacity but it is still important to establish that habit. If the sky is white or grey, that is not a good time to do a reading. Usually, we have a quarter to gather a certain number of these (dictated by our operating or construction permit), but right now we have to select the best time available to us. Just do your best with that part.
-if you know the operating unit, there is a space at the top of the form for that information so please include it, since we can’t enter properties to do this, we might not know, just place “unknown operation, outside smoke stack” or something of that nature.
The video I supplied or others can be used as a last resort but much of the content of the exercise is missed doing that. Most of us can locate a stack relatively close to where we live. Some ideas include; power plants, manufacturing facilities, and hospitals (many burn the biowaste on site). If you have to use a video, you must supply the link to the one you are using.
