“Hidden Intellectualism,” Graff

“Are Too Many People Going to College?,” Murray

For this essay, you will be using Gerald Graff’s “Hidden Intellectualism” and one of the other texts from our third unit to craft an argument in response to the following questions:

Consider what Graff says about intellectualism – how he defines it, his reasons for valuing it, the types of people he considers intellectuals, etc. To what extent does the second text support or refute (or a mix of both) Graff’s specific ideas about this concept?

To answer this question, you’ll need to thoroughly analyze both texts and have a solid understanding of the main claims being made by both. Be sure to maintain close contact with the question and the texts, and use the texts as the basis for your answer.
