The aim of this course is to make you an informed consumer of literature pertaining to Africana Studies, and help you explore ways you can conduct research and make your own contribution. Answer each question below in the three part outline in order to create your research proposal (about 5 pages).
Part I: Introduction and Research Question (about 2 pages)
1. State your general topic within Africana Studies.
2. State your specific RESEARCH QUESTION.
3. Who are the major scholars doing research related to your question? What are their
points of view?
4. How will your investigation contribute to the “conversation” on this topic?
Part II: Literature Review (about 2 pages)
Following accepted citation methods, provide a bibliography of your topic consisting of: * 10 articles from scholarly (peer reviewed) journals (not more than two from the same
journal) * 5 books
* 3 articles from newspapers/periodicals
* 2 sources from the internet (provide URL)
Part III: Methods and Analysis (about 1 page)
1. What specific sources and techniques could you use to investigate your research questionbeyondthesourceslistedinyourbibliography? Examples:archives,oral history, interviews, surveys, questionnaires, observation, etc.
2. What are the methods by which you will sort through, analyze, and/or synthesize the information you have obtained?
3. Why do you think your methods will be appropriate for your research question?
