You and another student that I assign will be paired up. Each of you will be randomly assigned half of a scenario: one as a Purchasing Agent and one as a Supplier Representative. You will use the WorldClassRoom Groups tool to hold an email “conversation” based on the information in the scenario.
Both parties in the scenario are motivated to do business and would like to find a solution. Chose a negotiation tactic from the textbook (pp. 515 to 516) to implement throughout the conversation. The tactic you choose might be one you are comfortable with or one you would like to test. There is no right or wrong answer or outcome, although you should negotiate for the best terms available to you. You will be graded on your ability to communicate your expectations clearly to the other party, your utility of the negotiation tactics discussed, and written understanding of the material.
Upon completion of the negotiation exercise, write and submit a one-page reflection paperthat summarizes your experience.
Instructions
- Prior to the beginning of the role-play, you will receive a message from the instructor through the WorldClassRoom Inbox with your assigned role and background information.
- When you open this discussion, you will be placed in the Negotiation group to which you and one other student have been assigned.
- Post your first message in the discussion. You’ll notice that the discussion isn’t threaded like our regular class discussions. Instead, it is set up like a blog to better show the back-and-forth correspondence you’ll engage in.
- When you’re finished posting, click the Return to the Course Home page link at the top of the discussion to leave the group area.
- Throughout the week, continue posting messages and replies using these steps. (You can also go directly to the discussion from the Recent Activity list on the WorldClassRoom user dashboard.)
- You and your partner should resolve your negotiation in a timely fashion, as you will need to write and submit your Negotiation Reflection Paper after you complete the role-play. Be sure allow yourselves enough time to submit your papers on time.
