Rhetorical Language Strategies Drug Abuse Discussion

I’m working on a writing project and need a sample draft to help me learn.

Just give my an idea about this.

One definition of rhetoric is the “strategic use of communication, oral or written, to achieve specifiable goals” (King & Kuypers, 2013).

For your final project, your goal is to persuade your reader/audience. How might you use communication strategically to help achieve this goal? One way is through your careful choice of language!

Effective use of language often takes practice and play. This workshop is an opportunity to do that.

This is meant to be a brainstorming activity. What you come up with might suck. And that’s okay. You may have to be silly and that’s okay. You are NOT required to incorporate any of this into your final project, but who knows, maybe it’ll be a step towards coming up with something worthwhile.

Remember Lamott’s “Shitty First Drafts?” We’re not even at a draft stage yet, so this can be worse than shitty. Just play with language. Play with words. See what happens.

For Workshop 6, respond to the following:

Write down one potential topic for your final project.

Alliteration can help grab your reader’s attention. Write a phrase or sentence related to your topic that uses alliteration.

Rhyme can help make an idea more memorable. Write a phrase or sentence related to your topic that uses rhyme.

Metaphors and similes can be delightful and visual language activates a reader’s brain in new ways. Write a metaphor or simile related to your topic.
