OpenStax Chapter 21
1) Discuss the different types of social movements, and identify here which kind of movement Occupy Wall Street was. Be sure to support your response with a justification for why Occupy was the type of movement you think it was. Response should be roughly 125 words, one full paragraph.
2) Conduct a frame analysis of a slogan (always a good example of framing) from a social movement you know about. Pro tip: you can always look on Google Images for protest signs from demonstrations associated with any given social movement. Is that slogan an example of diagnostic, prognostic or motivational framing? Or is it more than one at once? Be sure to explain the connection between diagnostic and prognostic framing in your response.Response should be roughly 200 words (one to two paragraphs long).
Taylor Chapter
3)As Taylor details, Black Lives Matter was founded by 3 Black queer women. How does a BLM framing reflect an intersectional perspective, one that, in Taylor’s view, distinguishes it from the “old guard” civil rights movement? Give a key example from the Taylor reading to show your understanding, and be sure to explain the theory of intersectionality for full points. Response should be 250 words (two full paragraphs).
