Students will select an organization and study information available on its website in order to answer questions and analyze that organizationâ€s human resources subsystem.
The study will focus upon the selected organizationâ€s human resources and employee relations objectives, structures, policies, practices, and selected administrative problems or challenges.
Students may choose one of the following subsystems to analyze:
Labor Relations
Human Resources Planning/Organizational Development
Recruitment and Selection
Training and Development
Safety, Health and Wellness
Employee Relations
Compensation and Benefits
Students will prepare a research summary that provides an overview of the HR subsystem that they are analyzing. This research project will include: (1) a cover page, (2) an analysis of secondary information available on a current HRM sub-system presented through a short paper (i.e., essay), including reference citations, (3) a list of references used to support the research summary. Students must have a minimum of three (3) scholarly resources and one must include a book.
The research summary should include:
Introduction: An overview of the topic and what will be discussed in the paper
Overview of the HR Subsystem:
An explanation for why it is an important issue for the workplace from the human resources fieldâ€s point of view
Summary of relevant employment law
Overview of Best Practices pertaining to the HR Subsystem
Conclusion
