BReport – Research Memo Report (Secondary and Primary) Individual Memo Draft
After submitting the Design Brief, your team is charged to research and gather information for the company for the innovation need. After discussing the research with your team, divide the research equally to each member. The next assignment reflecting the Group Client Project focuses on each group member submitting an individual research memorandum that reflects his/her personal research. This individual research memorandum will be due by October 18. Each member is to conduct his/her research and write up his/her findings. Later in the semester, each group member will focus on his/her research and will speak about it in the first public speaking presentation and all group members will present a group research business report that focuses on the group findings as well as a group public speech presentation.
First: Gather data/information through the UNCG library website and other sources, including viewing the Steven Cramer, our business librarian, link. You are welcome to seek his personal counsel as well. The sources you choose must be legitimate and credible, not opinion sites, blogsites, Wikipedia or similarly non-reputable sources.
Start early. This assignment will take you lots of time in gathering, in planning your document, and in writing your document. You cannot do a good job on a document that you spend two or three hours on. And, importantly, it’s not okay to let your team down. We are in this together. Please fully engage. Respect your team members by being fair with your contribution.

The assignment submission has three parts: a memo, bibliography, and an Appendix.
Memo (page one and two): You are to submit a two-full page memo report to the executive of the company – that is content-rich and in business style. It is to be finalized to perfection, that is to say, free of grammar, syntactical, and mechanical errors. Include at least three key findings.
- A template is offered to you below. Start with the template. Microsoft Word only.
- Single-spaced, double-spaced between paragraphs, do not indent
- 10 – 11-point font, standard margins
- APA citation style is required (include in-text citations that include some direct quotes and include a bibliography formatted in APA style)
- must refer to and discuss each of the support items you included in the Appendix.
Bibliography (page three): After the memo, you must find and record at least four (4) distinct sources in a formal bibliography. One source must be a primary source and the remaining three sources are secondary sources. Follow the chapter entitled, ” Conducting Research/ Conducting Research in a Document” in your book on conducting research, acknowledging, and documenting sources. The APA style is required. Follow guidelines for proper formatting and labeling of tables, figures, and other visuals in the textbook chapter entitled, “Designing Text and Visuals” , in the examples submitted in Canvas, or in the link that Steven Cramer provided.
Appendix (page four plus): Include a maximum of three pages of tables, figures, or other research data. Each item is to be titled with the source named in APA style in a caption.

Below is the memorandum format and content explanation:
Memorandum
To: Professor Karae Foddrell
From: Your First/Last Name
Date: Current Date
Subject: Research Compilation on the MKT 309 Project Business Need
The opening paragraph should include what you believe the problem is (what you would like to
assist the organization with) and what you would like to address. The information in this
paragraph is to clarify the direction and content of the memo, but only briefly – only enough to
help your audience understand your approach. Your introduction is NOT to be the largest
paragraph.
If you want to elaborate on the current situation in the remaining paragraphs, consider
discussion on information such as, what you see as critical aspects of the business,
opportunities and threats (such as trends, competitors, regulations, markets/customers,
industries, and technologies). Please note: each team member will not have the same
information in the introduction paragraph or this paragraph as each researcher took a different
area to research. Remember, this is an individual assignment, so every group member should
have a one area or a few areas to address in this memorandum. To add, think about your
audience; don’t tell them about themselves. In this research memorandum you should provide
the audience with information they do not know.
Key Findings:
Discuss your findings, the potential implications for the company, for the
innovation, and for the executive team. As you write your material, try think like your
audience. What would you like to know? How would you like to be informed? Include APA in-
text citing and refer to the items in the Appendix.
Close with a business conclusion
