Response Guidelines Read the posts of your peers and respond to at least two. Address how your air quality differs and offer ideas for improving air quality in their area. Be sure to respond to any questions posed to you by your peers or instructor.
I live in the county of Henry located in the state of Georgia. There is no data collected or monitoring of particle pollution in my area. This information does concern me because the county that I live in has a grade of F for unhealthy air pollution. This means the air quality is poor and there is pollution.
My children ages 4 and 14, spend a lot of time outside, especially in the summer. The poor air quality in my area can affect their lungs by inhaling pollution. They can face a greater risk of infection, coughing and bronchitis from air pollution. They could even suffer from lower lung function, putting them at greater risk of lung disease as they age.
My county could improve air quality by driving less. There are commuter buses called “Park and Ride”, so if you don’t want to drive your vehicle to the city to work you can take the bus daily. This cuts back on air pollution. Another way is to use less electricity. Solar panels are becoming more common in homes for heating and cooling. Finally, don’t burn wood or trash. I live in a slightly rural area where trash can be burned, however we do have access to weekly garbage disposal pickups.
