The most important activities in this class are reading and writing. The writing you do will take a few forms, which you can think of as a kind of pyramid. At the base of the pyramid, is the notebook, which amounts to a lot of writing, mostly exploratory and informal, that will support the other, more polished work you’ll be doing.
I will give you prompts each week for you to tackle in your notebook. You’ll find these prompts listed, by week under the link called Notebook Prompts on blackboard. There are two kinds of prompts that you can choose from: Recurring and Fresh. The Recurring Prompts are ones that will be available from the beginning, and they reflect themes of on-going importance that I want to encourage you to think and write about. The Fresh Prompts are based on the weekly reading and they invite you reflect more deeply on what you’ve been reading or seeing in our weekly work. After the first week, you’ll need to make two entries, of at least 200 words each, per week (for a total of 400 words/week). You can choose freely between the Recurring Prompts and the Fresh Prompts.
