Students often need letters of recommendation for jobs, scholarships, study abroad opportunities, or research funding such as the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) or Summer Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (SURP). This exercise gives you the tools you need for requesting these important letters.

Computer Exercise 1
In this first computer exercise, you will write a professional e-mail. This is a most important skill. If your e-mails to your professors are not articulate and clear, you may not get the responses you need or any response at all. NOTE: the exercise has a mock template. Don’t merely do “fill in the blank with a single word” and submit. Think critically about what is there/what is needed. Make sure the mock letter you write contains the necessary content and endeavor to put it in your own words.
