The
main purpose of this assignment is to practice and develop those skills by
summarizing and critically assessing secondary sources (texts that narrate and
analyze historical events). write a Reading Journal entry for assigned reading. journal entry will summarize the reading’s key points, including,
but not limited to, the author’s subject, purpose, question(s), thesis, and sources. entries will also include brief assessments of the reading’s strengths and weaknesses,
supported by examples. Paraphrase the author’s main points, and use direct quotations
sparingly. Further instructions are included on the assignment templates (see below)

1) Use the ‘Reading Journal Template’ .doc files posted in Nexus to create each
Reading Journal entry
2)Do not change the font type or size, the margin widths, and line spacing of the
Reading Journal Templates. These are already formatted correctly.

3) Cite specific pages of the readings using Chicago style footnotes. The templates
include examples of full and short form footnote citations for the readings.
