After reading this blog and thinking about gender specific toys, children’s play experiences, and knowing what you already know about play, what do you think about toys and play? Should boys be given dolls, strollers, shopping carts and kitchen sets to play with? Should we be giving little girls cars, trucks, tools, footballs, and building sets to play with instead of the traditional toys? Do we let them decide? Most parents today want to avoid gender stereotypes and often lean towards gender neutral, but most young children tend to want to play with gender specific toys that are traditional for their gender. What would you do? Allow them to choose or make them play with gender neutral or opposite gender toys to satisfy your own need to be gender neutral?
