Thoreau states that the possessions we cherish are nothing more than things we have invented, used, and have become so important to us that we think we just cannot live without them. But in reality, we could live without them, as so many humans have in the past.
Search through your own possessions and find five things that you really feel you cannot live without. Briefly describe them. I assume this will be easy and obvious. But then I want you to think back to the time in history when those five things did not exist. Now, write about how people survived without those five items. Remember, there was a time in history when the wheel did not exist.
