After reading the poems, discuss:

  1. How are Shakespeare’s poems similar?
  2. Emily Dickinson lived a life that was very alone. Look at her poems and show how her poems reflect this perception.
  3. The
    poems by William Blake are clearly opposites; find the differences and
    similarities that reflect “Heaven and Hell” in the poems.

CHOOSE ONLY ONE OF THE TOPICS!!!!

Make
sure you use textual evidence; use MLA formatting and have a works
cited. You will need to comment on ONE other person’s entry.

  • You must select one of the provided topics to write a well-written essay of 800 words AND at least five paragraphs.
  • You must use your textbook as a source AND two other sources for documentation purposes.
  • Correct MLA documentation must be used.
  • There MUST be at least two and no more than three quotations in the
    body paragraphs to support the points you are trying to make.
  • The introduction must contain the author(s) and title of the work(s) that are in the essay.
  • Topic One-Compare AND Contrast Shakespeare’s and Browning’s poems.
  • Topic
    Two-Compare AND contrast “My Last Duchess” to “A Rose for Emily.” If
    you choose this option, you cannot use material from the first essay.
  • Topic
    Three-Compare AND contrast the writing styles and content of William
    Shakespeare, Elizabeth Browning, and Robert Browning.
  • Topic Four- Compare and Contrast the characters of Emily from “A Rose for Emily,” and the Duchess from “My Last Duchess.”

WEEK FIVE Discussion Post

For
this discussion post, you will post your essay to the group. Each
student will choose ONE person’s essay to peer edit. During this
assignment each student should make a list of suggestions for the essay
related to content, grammar/structure, and MLA formatting. DO NOT IN ANY
WAY ALTER THE DOCUMENT OF ANOTHER STUDENT; simply proofread and make
the suggestions that I have indicated. Before submitting the final copy
of your essay reflect on these comments, my comments on the literacy
essay, comments that I have made on the essay two, and review my
informational notes.
