- Intrinsic Motivation
The drive that leads an individual to engage in an activity without being externally rewarded for that action. In the context of learning, a student is intrinsically motivated if the process of learning is considered important and brings him or her joy. In contrast, a student who is extrinsically motivated is driven by external rewards, such as good grades. Intrinsic motivation has been found to be related to high achievement and how much students enjoy the learning process. There is currently no unified theory of intrinsic motivation.
