Components of a reaction paper.
1. Introduction
1.1. Sentence 1; Summary’s opening sentence
a. Name of the author of the text
b. Title of the article
c. Source of the article
d. Author’s main claim argument or point.
1.2. Sentence 2-4 (Number of sentences depends on length of the original text). Brief and accurate summary of the original text.
1.3. Last sentence: Your thesis statement; which
a. expresses agreement
b. partial agreement
c. disagreement or
d. evaluate the text (example; discuss the strength and weaknesses of the methods use in reporting).
II. Body (Paragraph 1)
2.1. Start with a topic sentence (Supporting idea 1) to explain the opinion you expressed in your thesis statement.
a. Contains a clear topic and controlling idea
b. Clearly relates to the thesis statement
2.2. Includes sufficient details/ examples/ quotes from the text to explain your points.
III. Body (Paragraph 2)
3.1. Start with a topic sentence (Supporting idea 2) to explain the opinion you expressed in your thesis statement.
