Description: Students will identify a newspaper or magazine article that was published in the last 90 days about an incident of child maltreatment. Students will write a three to five-page paper that briefly summarizes and critiques the article.
To prepare for this assignment, students may wish to sign up for the Child Welfare in the News listserv.
Instructions:
1) Find a newspaper or magazine article that has been written in the last 90 days about an incident of child maltreatment. The articles can be found online. Make sure the source is reputable, and avoid using blogs.
2) Read the article.
3) Print the article as a PDF.
4) Write a three to five page paper that:
a) Summarizes the incident of child maltreatment described in the article.
b) Describes the risk factors and protective factors in the child(ren)’s life.
c) Critiques the author’s writing about child maltreatment and the incident.
