The main Character, in the medieval morality play, Everyman, cries out, “O Death, thy cometh when I had thee least in mind.” Like this play, there are many other works of literature which deal with the themes of the inevitability of death and the futility of trying to escape it. Also, that death does not discriminate. The authors employ various literary elements and techniques like characterization, foreshadowing, imagery, symbolism, irony, horror and suspense etc. to present these essential themes.
In your essay analyze the stories, “The Masque of the Red Death” by Edgar Allan Poe and “Appointment at Noon” by Eric Frank Russell in the light of the above statements.
