Qualitative Research Studies

Begin to gather background information about the topic of interest
and the research focus you identified in Week One. This is the beginning
of developing an understanding of the topic and a prelude to narrowing
the topic. Identify two peer-reviewed academic journal articles that
report on qualitative research studies that address the research topic
or research focus of interest to you.

  • Discuss how these two studies are useful in helping you develop a
better understanding of your topic of interest or your research focus.
  • Discuss what you learned from each study, and indicate which study you found more compelling and why.
  • Using this week’s required readings by Shenton (2004) as well as the
two articles by Polkinghorne (2005) and Freeman, deMarrais, Preissle,
Roulston, and St. Pierre (2007), discuss the concept of trustworthiness
    in qualitative research studies.
  • What strengths do the two research studies you identified have that
align with Shenton’s criteria for trustworthiness (credibility,
    transferability, dependability, and confirmability)?
