“There were three cause that stimulated the European religious pluralism in the American colonies after 1690, as Europeans began immigrating that came from several different religious groups. Another one was that there was religious groups that were established earlier in smaller numbers and during this time there was an expansion oft these already existing religions. The last one is that the beliefs of magic and occultism was still alive and well considering that there was the infamous Salem witch trials in 1692. The one that stood out to me and interest me the most is was the belief of magic and the occult. The specifically interest me the most because I grew up in a Christian household and this was what many in the community were afraid of and it was just bad in general. I thought it was interesting during the reading where he was talking about how there was more practitioners of magic than there was than god believers and Henry Melchior even pointed out that it was generally the younger immigrants who were bring this to the table. It kids of made me laugh thinking about these young necromancers. I have always thought that for the most part, Catholicism and Christianity dominated in religion so it was just interesting to see what he commented on these magic believers. I always find it so amazing that people believe in the magical and occult medicines and I enjoy learning more about it. I also enjoyed learning about their sources of magical and occult information and ways that they practiced their beliefs. It interesting to me more because it is polar opposite of what I grew up on.”
