PU Creationism and Evolutionary Theory Essay

A. Pick one of the accounts of theory choice that we have discussed in class and use it to evaluate the scientific belief-worthiness of Creation Science (creationism considered as a scientific theory) and Darwinian evolutionary theory (according to which most modern species arose by a combination of chance variation and natural selection operating over a long time).

B. Use this evaluation to inform an argument as to what should be taught on this subject in the public schools, K-12.

This is not a research paper requiring sources beyond the texts and lectures for this course. Your primary resource on the two theories you are being asked to evaluate (Creationism and Evolutionary Theory) should be The Beak of the Finch. Your primary resource on the accounts of scientific belief-worthiness that you are being asked to apply should be the other texts and lectures for this course.

BOOKS you can use:

Carl G. Hempel: Philosophy of Natural Science

Larry Laudan: Progress and Its Problems

Jonathan Weiner: The Beak of the Finch
